Septic Systems: What You Need to Know

If you’re using a septic system, you probably already know how important it is to treat it with care. One of the biggest things to avoid? Pouring grease or excessive product down the drain. Here’s why — and how SHYN fits into a septic-friendly home. Why You Shouldn’t Pour Grease (or Excess Product) Down the Drain Septic systems rely on healthy bacteria to break everything down. When too much grease or strong chemical cleaner enters the system, it can: Clog pipes and create blockages Form a layer of fat in the tank, which prevents proper breakdown Disrupt the bacteria balance, making your system less effective Lead to expensive repairs or even system failure So, even when using septic-safe products like SHYN, it's important not to overdo it. SHYN Products & Septic Safety We’re proud to say that most SHYN products are safe to use in septic homes — as long as you’re mindful about how much you're using and where it’s going: ✅ Septic-safe when used correctly: SHYN Degreaser – use in mop buckets or spray bottles, not down the drain SHYN Grime Lifter – soak items in a bucket, then dispose of water in moderation SHYN Paste – spot cleaning only, no rinsing large amounts into the system SHYN Positive Chi Disinfectant – natural and gentle, just don’t tip full bottles down the sink 🚫 Not for septic systems: SHYN Mold Pro – it’s antibacterial, which means it can kill the good bacteria your septic needs to function properly Final Tip: Clean smarter, not harder — and avoid dumping excess product, grease, or wastewater down the drain. Your septic system (and plumber) will thank you!

Cleaning Timber Cupboards

Wooden cabinets are beautiful but delicate — and the wrong cleaning method can damage them. If you're wondering whether SHYN is safe to use on timber cabinetry, the answer is yes — but with care.  How to Clean Wooden Cabinets Using SHYN: Yes, SHYN is safe to use on wooden cabinets — when applied correctly. Never spray SHYN Degreaser directly onto wood. Always spray it onto a cloth first. Apply the product using a cloth to avoid spray penetrating the lacquer or seal. Use Magic Erasers sparingly — only on heavily dirty spots, and very gently. Always remove product residue with a wet SHYN Ultimate Microfibre Cloth. Finish with a SHYN Drying Cloth to leave a clean, streak-free finish. If the cabinets aren’t very dirty, skip the product — just use a damp cloth. Cleaning Method by Condition: For Light Cleaning / Regular Upkeep: Wet a SHYN Ultimate Microfibre Cloth with plain water. Wipe the cabinet twice to lift dust and smudges. Dry immediately using the SHYN Drying Cloth. For Dirty or Greasy Cabinets: Spray SHYN Degreaser onto a cloth (never onto the cabinet). Gently wipe away grime and buildup. If needed, use a Magic Eraser very gently on tough spots. Wipe away all residue with a wet SHYN Ultimate Microfibre Cloth. Finish with the SHYN Drying Cloth to prevent streaks and watermarks. Important Tips for Wooden Surfaces: Wood is often lacquered or sealed — too much product or moisture can damage it. Never soak the surface — always wring out cloths well. Be extra careful around edges and corners where water can seep in. Avoid scrubbing — gentle is best for timber.

How to Fix Streaks on Your Granite Splashback

Granite splashbacks are stunning—but when they streak, it can ruin the look in seconds. Don’t worry! With your SHYN products and this simple method, you’ll restore your granite to its streak-free shine in no time. Why Are There Streaks? Streaks can appear for a few reasons: Leftover residue from previous products Watermarks or mineral build-up from drying water Surface etching (less common, but can happen from strong chemicals) Let’s rule each of these out using your SHYN kit. Step-by-Step: How to Eliminate Streaks Step 1: Test Patch with Water Start with the simplest, safest method. Wet your SHYN Magic Eraser with plain water. Wring it out well so it’s damp, not dripping. Wipe a small test patch of your granite splashback. This will help lift built-up residue or light marks. Step 2: Remove the Residue Wipe over the same area using your damp SHYN Ultimate Microfibre Cloth. This cloth traps anything the Magic Eraser has loosened—no streaks left behind. Step 3: One-Wipe Dry Finish Use your SHYN Drying Cloth to dry the area completely. No rubbing or buffing needed—this cloth absorbs all moisture and removes streaks in just one wipe. That’s it! Your granite should now be clean, clear, and streak-free. If You Still See Streaks: That’s okay—some grime can be stubborn. Lightly spray a patch with SHYN Degreaser (diluted 50/50 with water). Use the Magic Eraser to gently lift any remaining grime or build-up. Wipe with your Ultimate Microfibre Cloth, and dry again with the Drying Cloth.  Still not perfect? If streaks remain after these steps, your granite may have etching or damage from previous harsh products. While this can’t be reversed with cleaning, our method will still keep it as clean and presentable as possible going forward.

Can SHYN Products Be Used on Caesarstone?

Great question! Caesarstone is a durable quartz surface, but like all stone surfaces, it’s important to note that it’s porous unless sealed properly. Most Caesarstone benchtops come with a factory-applied sealer, which helps protect the surface from staining and damage. However, the condition of that sealer can vary depending on age, usage, and previous cleaning habits. If you're considering using SHYN Degreaser or SHYNER (our polishing and finishing product) on Caesarstone, here’s what we recommend: ✅ Spot Test First Before applying to the entire surface: Dampen a cloth or sponge and apply a small amount of SHYN Degreaser to a hidden or inconspicuous patch. Gently agitate the area using a Magic Eraser to lift any built-up grime or residue. Wipe the surface clean with a clean damp microfibre cloth to remove all product. Dry the area thoroughly using a SHYN Drying Cloth or microfibre. If no damage, discoloration, or residue appears after the surface is dry, you can proceed with cleaning the rest of the benchtop. ⚠️ Important Notes Only use SHYN Degreaser on Caesarstone if there is visible buildup on top of the sealed surface. It’s meant to help rejuvenate the finish, not penetrate into unsealed or raw stone. If your Caesarstone surface has no sealer or the sealer has broken down, avoid using any heavy-duty product until resealed. As always, if you're unsure about the condition of your Caesarstone or how it's been maintained, consult the supplier or test cautiously. SHYN is here to help make cleaning easy, safe, and effective.
